02 Jul Podium finish for TBKART and Habulin in Sarno’s KZ2 Masters showdown
A brilliant weekend for TBKART Racing Team and Kristijan Habulin, who emerged as leading contenders at Sarno in the one-off round of the FIA Karting European Championship dedicated to the KZ2 Masters category.
From 19 to 22 June, under the scorching sun of the Naples International Circuit, the battle for the European title in the over-35 class took centre stage. TBKART entered the event with a single representative, Kristijan Habulin, determined to make a difference.
From Friday’s qualifying, Habulin immediately showed the performance of the TBKART–TM Kart package, setting the sixth fastest overall time and laying the groundwork for the weekend. In the heats, he finished second and fourth, while in the third he crossed the line in third place. However, a five-second penalty for overtaking under yellow flags dropped him to ninth.
The result placed him on the second row for the Super Heat, but an early contact prevented him from staying with the front group, compromising his grid position for the final.
Lining up seventh for the final, Habulin staged a determined comeback. After a closely fought race, he finished second, just 0.040 seconds shy of the European crown.
A podium that reinforces TBKART’s ambitions ahead of the next major event for the KZ2 Masters class: the FIA Karting International Masters’ Super Cup, scheduled from 9 to 12 October at Franciacorta.
